The picture shows what happens to the cells in our airways or breathing tubes when we deal with problems like pollution or getting sick from bacteria and viruses in a long time. These problems make the walls of our airways thicker, which makes the tubes narrower and makes it harder for air to flow through them.

The research found that certain natural chemicals in our bodies, called endogenous cannabinoids or endocannabinoids, can lower inflammation in our lungs. Specifically, when these chemicals increase in our bodies because their breakdown slows down.

The study discovered that some natural chemicals in our bodies called endogenous cannabinoids or endocannabinoids can lower how sensitive our airways are when we're inflamed. In particular, when their levels rise in our bodies, as a result of slowing down their breakdown.
